Description

2012
Oak plywood
48 inch diameter (122 cm)
The third in an ongoing series of wood cuts.

PROCESS
These works are first designed on paper, some on graph paper, some with pencil and compass. I then take a 4'x8'x1" (122x244x2.5cm) sheet of high-grade plywood, cut it in half and map out the design on it. I drill holes in the negative areas to create a pilot for the jigsaw to fit through and cut the shape out. Once the shape is cut, I then go around all the edges with a router to round over the corners. Then I sand everything smooth and apply a wood stain followed by a polyurethane top-coat.
That may be oversimplifying things a bit, but all the important steps are noted. If you have any questions about tools or process, feel free to ask, I would love to help.
